The personification of sleep. The twin brother of death, he had wings with which he could fly to induce sleep in those travelers who stopped to rest. One of his sons, Morpheus, also winged, performed the same task by brushing mortals with a flower. In addition, Morpheus would inspire dreams in mortals by assuming in each instance the corresponding human form. [p. 86]
